Videography / Video Editing

During the height of the COVID-19 pandemic our organization performed a test on many of the commonly available take home tests with the goal of better informing the public before they made a purchase. In addition to gathering footage for our reports, and being one of the participants in the testing process, I was asked to provide video to Philadelphia’s ABC 6 for potential use in a news segment. They ended up using most of the materials I sent in in a near unedited fashion. The full ABC 6 report can be seen here: https://6abc.com/covid-19-tests-at-home-covid-19-test-coronavirus-montgomery-county-testing-for/11455108/

OSF HealthCare requested a video that covered Simulation Specialists as they traveled to hospitals in the Central Illinois area and simulated medical emergencies using realistic medical manikins. They are contracted by the regional hospitals whose goal is to help their hospital staff better recognize and, if needed, adjust their communication skills in a crisis.

I interviewed, edited, filmed, and constructed storyboards for this project.  My goal for this video was a balance of a serious tone and personalized workflow.  A Simulation Specialist is one of the strangest and most satisfying jobs I have ever seen.  Honestly, how many times have you seen someone roll in a rubber robot that can complain about its fever? Yet these are the people that bring these beings to life and together they prepare medical staff for when a real emergency happens.  I wanted to shed some light on their work from their perspective.  The project was well received and even has a Japanese translation for use overseas.

OSF HealthCare and Jump Simulation wanted a video to showcase how the merging of these two organizations under one roof would improve each others work and ultimately help patients.

I handled most of the camera work and edited the piece in post-production.  My goal was to capture the perspective of employees involved in the merger and use parts of their daily lives as the transitions from one scene to another.  I scouted out where employees worked and found little parts of their day that would help turn the mundane into something flashy.  The glass wipe was an interesting scene setup as I had to crouch down on the opposite side of a glass door as they wiped away the marker.

The video was well received and is mainly displayed during live events for people interested in what the company has to offer.

The Advanced Imaging and Modeling team at Jump Simulation wanted to showcase their program that takes medical imaging data, let's say an ultrasound, and puts it in a VR environment that can let physicians examine a patient without invasive procedures, such as surgery.

A part of the shoot was a live demonstration where surgeons and physicians would use the VR equipment.  I set up interview locations, questioned the physicians involved, filmed b-roll, and ran the gauntlet of post-production.  For this edit, I wanted to capture the feel of entering a 3D environment.  It’s hard to describe what it feels like to wear a VR headset and truly be in the space that projected.  Most people are comfortable with the degree of separation when watching something on TV, so I filmed and edited in a way that showed that once you put on the headset, you're in whatever world the designers have made for you.

This video is being used for internal promotion and brand awareness.  It's commonly played for touring executives and physicians.
